A collection of no less than 6 “Shell money” coins, which is the earliest known coin currency and dated from around 3,500-2,000 B.C.
Size: 18-24mm
As a means to facilitate small transactions, the Ancient Sumerians used these shells as the first money.
It was such a useful invention that Sumerian Shell Money, archaeological evidence suggests, circulated throughout the fertile crescent of the Middle East about 5000 years ago, when Sumerian culture was at it’s zenith.
One proto-money currency ring would sell for $100-$150 at antiquity and coin dealers, here you can get this lot for $35 for each!
